2011 TAC Grant Recipients

Sheryl Fiolek, Page Jackson Elementary School

Received funding for a student quilt project from recycled paper.  The quilt will have seeds in the paper pulp, and the quilt will be planted in the school gar dent.  The grant will go toward the purchase of art supplies for this project.

 

Connie Balukoff , Blue Ridge Elementary School

Received funding for fourth grade students to make Nutcracker masks in December and fifth grade students to begin a unit on pottery of South America.  Students will study the country of Brazil and their culture.  They will also learn the steps in creating clay pots.  The grant will go toward the cost of art supplies for both of these projects.

 

Lisa Patterson, Driswood Elementary School

Received a grant for printmaking tools and supplies to enable Driswood to build up its art room supplies.  Ms Patterson will design lessons on printmaking for all grades and create prints and mono-prints.

 

Angela Holsinger, Driswood Elementary School

Grant funds will purchase 13 ukeleles for the 5th grade general music class.

 

Cheryl Crawford, Page Jackson Elementary School

AHA will help offset the cost of new Orff instruments for the 2nd grade, 5 xylophones.

 

Nancy Guiney, C. W. Shipley Elementary School

Grant award will enable 45 Accelerated Reading students to attend a performance of the musical, Rapunzel, at Imagination Stage in Bethesda.

 

Pamela Shearer, South Jefferson Elementary School

Funds will purchase a Dulcimer kit and folk songs for a Folk Song performance project for grade 3 - 5.

 

Judy Chesley, South Jefferson Elementary School

Project to organize a framed art show at South Jefferson Library.  Funds will support the framing a matting of every student artwork and a reception for the community this spring.

 

Amanda Townsend, Shepherdstown Elementary School

AHA funds will go toward the purchase of 1 tenor recorder and 6 alto recorders for a school recorder ensemble.

 

Lindsay Dove, Wright Denny Intermediate

AHA funds will help offset the cost of 25 hand drums for grades 3 - 5. These drums will be used with an Orff Schulwerk curriculum.

 

Johns Russell, Shepherdstown Middle School

AHA funds will go towards the purchase of Orff Schulwerk instruments and music books.

 

Chad Conant, Shepherdstown Middle School

The AHA grant will fund Jazz Clinicians Pat Lowry, Jesse Shultzaberger and John Lynch, Sr. to work with the Shepherdstown Middle School Jazz Band.  This grant will also fund John Lynch, Sr. to conduct two concert band clinics.

 

Charles Wall, Harpers Ferry Middle School

The AHA grant will fund guest conductor, John P. Lynch Sr., to work with the concert and jazz bands.

 

Rachel Allen and Adam Booth, Charles Town Middle School

Students will create a multi-disciplinary project, incorporating technology, claymation, music and story.  8th grade art students will create a claymation movie using Frames software on new MACBOOK Pro computers.  Music students will write background music and narrate the film using Garage Band softer and new IPads.  The AHA grant will fund guest artist, Adam Booth, who will work with the students on this project.

 

Susan Carney, Wildwood Middle School

Funds will purchase tiles and glaze for the continuation of the tile mural project at Wildwood Middle School.

 

Larissa Elliott, Jefferson High School

Guest artist, Steve Warner, will lead a musical history lesson for students, focusing on popular music of the 20th century including Stephen Foster, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan.

 

J. P. Lynch, Jr., Eastern WV Regional Jazz Festival

AHA is proud to support this regional Jazz Festival for Middle and High School Jazz Bands.

 

Brook Evers, Shepherd University Vocal Competition

AHA is proud to support this National Vocal Competition for high school juniors and seniors.
